1.  It Is Okay To Cry

I reached to get a box of kleenex and knocked a glass off the table.  It hit the floor and shattered.  And I cried.  I wasn't crying for the glass.  It was almost empty, so I wasn't crying because I now had to mop the sticky residue of juice off the floor.  I cried because this seemed like a culmination of how I felt most of the day.  I felt bad when I got up, and the weariness and stress seemed to build throughout the day.  And I cried.  Just a few moments.  Just a few tears.  I used to be so embarassed by my tears.  But, now, I realize that sometimes it releases some of the emotion and pressure that builds up inside and it's okay to cry.  "Jesus wept."  (John 11:35)  Jeremiah is called the weeping prophet.  Let's look at some of the tears in the Bible.

2.  Jesus Wept

I always had a tender heart and cried over anything emotional.  Some people used to laugh at me for crying.  So, I tried to hide my tears.  As I grew older I learned that sometimes we need to cry.  There are things worth crying for.  And it it better to release those emotions, than to keep them bottled up inside.  John 11:35 tells us that "Jesus wept."  Mary was weeping at the death of her brother, Lazarus.  There were other Jews also weeping with her.  And Jesus wept.  He had compassion for His friends.  We often weep at the death of our loved ones.  Even when we know that we will see them again in heaven, we miss their presence here, and we weep.  Our tears are a way others can see our love and compassion.

"32  Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33  When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34  And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35  Jesus wept.
36  Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37  And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
38  Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39  Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
40  Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41  Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42  And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43  And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44  And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go."  (John 11:32-44)

3.  God Sees Our Tears

Sometimes it is good to have a shoulder to cry on.  A good and faithful friend who cares for us can help comfort us and ease our tears.  But, there have been many times when I cried alone.  When God gave me burdens for lost friends, I often wept and prayed alone.  Many suffer from pain and suffering and we don't know the depth of their sorrow and tears.  And there are times when we are alone and we don't think that anyone sees our tears, but I want to remind you today that God sees our tears.  When the prophet Isaiah told King Hezekiah that he was going to die, the king turned his face to the wall and cried and prayed.  And God sent Isaiah back to tell him the He heard his prayer and saw his tears and He added fifteen years to his life.

"1  In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
2  Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
3  I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4  And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
5  Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

Another example is found two chapters later.  God saw the tears of King Josiah in II Kings 22:19.  "Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD."  We can be sure that God sees our tears and hears our prayers!

4.  "He Understands My Tears"

Our devotions yesterday showed us that God sees our tears.  I wanted to share this song today.  All I can find online says that "He Understands My Tears" is by the Isaacs.  This is a beautiful song with great words.  There are many times that I try to pray and all I can do is cry. It is good to know that God understands our tears.

"26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."  (Romans 8:26-28)

"He Understands My Tears"

"He understands my tears...

It's hard to believe He still loves me
Knowing how wrong I have been
When all I can say is I'm sorry
When all I can feel is my sin

He understands when all I do is cry
He feels the hurt that no one can see down inside
And when the words get in the way I know He still hears
For He understands my tears.

You may not believe that I'm broken
For all you can see is my smile
Oh but He hears the heart that's unspoken
And He gives me strength through each trial

He understands when all I do is cry
He feels the hurt that no one can see down inside
And when the words get in the way I know He still hears
For He understands my tears.

Oh when the words get in the way I know He still hears
For He understands when no one else can
He understands my tears."

5.  "Do The Tears Flow Down Your Cheeks Unbidden?"

There are so many things that can bring us to tears.  Sorrow and pain, heartbreak and loneliness, and we can even have tears of joy.  I don't know if anyone else has ever had this happen, but there have been times when my body and emotional being get so overwhelmed that I cry without even understanding the reason.  I love to sing the old hymns, and the one that has been on my mind today is, "Tell It To Jesus."  This great old hymn was written by Jeremiah Eames Rankin, published in 1876.  The writer gives several reasons that can bring tears to our eyes.  The second verse includes times like the ones I shared above when it asks, "Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?"  Even when we don't understand why we are crying, Jesus understands.  Tell it to Jesus.  "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."  (I Peter 5:7)

"Tell It To Jesus"

"1.  Are you weary, are you heavy-hearted?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

Refrain:
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that’s well-known;
You’ve no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.

2.  Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

3.  Do you fear the gath’ring clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

4.  Are you troubled at the thought of dying?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
For Christ’s coming kingdom are you sighing?
Tell it to Jesus alone."

6.  Have You Lost Your Song?

We learn about Babylon invading Jerusalem and taking the Jews away captive in historical books of the Bible and the books of prophecy.  But, I think one of the most vivid pictures I have of this devastating time in history is found in the book of Psalms.  The book of Psalms was their book of songs.  There are many Psalms of praise and worship.  There are also some Psalms of remembrance that are not joyful.  In Psalm 137 we can feel their despair.  The ones who killed and destroyed their families and carried them away, demanded them to sing, but they hung their harps on the willow trees.  Sometimes we go through some really rough storms and we lose our joy and our song.  Look to the Lord.  He can help you when you have lost your song.  The Lord can help you overcome the trials of the past, by leading you to the future.  There have been periods of time in my life when I lost my song.  It took prayer, and time, and constant leaning on the Lord to find renewed strength and joy, and find my song again.

"1  By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2  We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3  For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4  How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?
5  If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
6  If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7  Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
8  O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9  Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones."  (Psalm 137:1-9)

7.  Sow In Tears

Does it help to cry?  We were driving out of state to my son's once and he called and asked us to pick up a thermometer.  We pulled off the next exit and went into the store that was there.  As we were leaving, I saw a young woman leaning against the building and crying.  We got back out of the car and went over to help her.  She didn't have her phone with her and needed to contact someone to pick her up.  I let her borrow my phone and we did what we could to help her.  If I had not seen her crying we would have kept on going.  I believe that God put us at the right time and place to help this young lady.  God used us that day to help relieve someone's tears.  For her, it helped to cry.  When we look in the Bible at tears, we see that it helps to weep for those who are lost.  "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.  He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."  (Psalm 126:5-6)  Only God knows how many people have been saved that were covered with prayer and tears of a loving father or mother.  Don't quit praying.  Pour out your heart in prayer and sow in tears.  Tears show compassion, and you don't know, but maybe the person you are praying for is looking for someone to show them love and compassion.

8.  "Tears Are A Language God Understands"

Psalm 56:3 was special to our family because it was one of the first Bible verses that I taught our children.  "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee."  Today I want to read a little farther into the chapter.  "Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?"  (Psalm 56:8)  David killed the giant and went on to fight more battles.  He was the king of Israel.  But, he must have been through times when he cried tears, because he asked God to keep his tears in a bottle.  He knew that God understood his tears.  In 1971 a song was recorded that was written by Gordon Jensen.  He also knew that God understands our tears.  Maybe you remember this heartfelt song.

"Tears Are A Language God Understands"

Often you wonder why tears come into your eyes
And burdens seem to be much more than you can stand
But God is standing near, He sees your falling tears
Tears are a language God understands

God sees the tears of a brokenhearted soul
He sees your tears and hears them when they fall
God weeps along with man and takes him by the hand
Tears are a language God understands

When grief has left you low it causes tears to flow
And things have not turned out the way that you had planned
But God won't forget you His promises are true
Tears are a language God understands

God sees the tears of a brokenhearted soul
He sees your tears and hears them when they fall
God weeps along with man and takes him by the hand
Tears are a language God understands

9.  Tears Won't Fix The Broken Past

Today I want to share a devotional from a few months ago, with these additional verses...

"Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!"   (Jeremiah 9:1)
"And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters."  (Jeremiah 9:18)
"But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive."  (Jeremiah 13:17)

Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet, but he could not cry enough tears to fix the sinful past of his people.  We have his book of prophecy, and we also have the book of Lamentations, as he lamented and wept over Jerusalem.  God gave him the message of destruction to His people because they had turned away from God and served idols.  The message was sure, and there was no way Jeremiah could change, or fix the sinful past of his people.  And they refused to turn back to God.  "O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return."  (Jeremiah 5:3)  We can't change the past.  We can't press a delete button and make it go away, or change history.  We need to learn from the mistakes of the past and turn back to God.  We can keep our faith in the Lord and trust Him for the present and future.

"10  They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11  Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them."  (Jeremiah 11:10-11)

The book of Lamentations gives us a picture of the broken heart of Jeremiah and his tears, but he still had hope.

"21  This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22  It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."  (Lamentations 3:21-23)

10.  "Through It All"

I guess it is because I have been thinking of tears so much while writing these devotionals, but songs keep coming to my mind and I have another one to share today.  Yesterday we were riding in the car and I started singing, "I've had many tears and sorrows, I've had questions for tomorrow..."  I can remember singing "Through It All" in the 70's.  It was written by Andrae' Crouch in 1971.  It is hard to believe that was 51 years ago.  Since that time I have had many tears and sorrows, and with the way the world is going now, we often have questions for tomorrow.  Each verse of this song begins with tears or hardships, but ends with trust in Jesus through those trials.  It is comforting to know that even through storms, the Lord is always with us and He is working everything for good.  "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."  (Romans 8:28)

"Through It All"

"1.  I've had many tears and sorrows,
I've had questions for tomorrow,
there's been times I didn't know right from wrong.
But in every situation,
God gave me blessed consolation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.

Chorus
Through it all, through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.
Through it all, through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.

2.  I've been to lots of places,
I've seen a lot of faces,
there's been times I felt so all alone.
But in my lonely hours,
yes, those precious lonely hours,
Jesus lets me know that I was His own.

3.  I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I'd never had a problem,
I wouldn't know God could solve them,
I'd never know what faith in God could do."

11.  Peter Wept Bitterly

I appreciate the way the Lord shows me things in my day to day walk with Him that I can share with others through these devotionals.  One of the most memorable things He said to me was, "Roosters still crow."  I wrote this many years ago, but I want to share it again today.

Roosters Still Crow
"And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me." Luke 22:31-34

I was driving to work this morning and just up the road from my house I heard a rooster crow.  There is nothing extraordinary about hearing a rooster, since it was morning.  I grew up next door to my grandparents and they had chickens and roosters so I woke up to the crowing many mornings.  My children enjoyed hatching chicks and raising their own chickens for a few years and I never really thought about the roosters crowing.  But this morning, God reminded me of these verses, and those farther into the chapter. "And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly."  (Luke 22:59-62)  Peter denied Christ three times and the rooster crowed.  Jesus looked at Peter and Peter remembered the word of the Lord and went out and wept bitterly.  Somehow Peter made it through that day, and maybe he was able to sleep a little that night, and in the morning, the rooster crowed.  I believe Peter wept again, and the next morning the rooster crowed.  Their roosters may have been like some of ours and crowed during the day, too.  I think that everytime Peter heard a rooster crow he remembered the look of the Lord and His Words.  I have heard preachers criticize Peter for going fishing in John 21:3, but with the sound of the waves Peter could not hear any roosters crow while he was on the sea.  All of these thoughts were going through my mind as I drove to work and then the Lord whispered in His still small voice that roosters still crow.  We sometimes fall to temptation and we confess and weep bitterly to our Lord and He is faithful to forgive us of our sin.  Then we hear a sound, or see something and it reminds us of our failure.  The first sound Peter heard every morning was the rooster crow.  Jesus could have told Peter that he would deny Him before dawn, but He said, "before the cock crow".  Jesus knew Peter would be reminded of his failure over and over.  Peter went on to become a great and mighty preacher for our Lord.  In our lives today, roosters still crow.  We need to confess our sins, and then let those painful memories stir us to become better Christians.  We have been looking towards Mother's Day and I wondered why God put this on my heart today.  It may have been just for you.   Does that small cry you hear each morning remind you of sin in your life?  Do you wake with physical or emotional pain caused by your past?  Turn to the Lord.  We read in I John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  Jesus will forgive.  Sometimes it's hard for us to forget.

12.  "Let My Cry Come Unto Thee"

I have seen the charts that help you find encouraging scriptures for different situations that you may be going through.  Examples may be, when you are upset, read John 14.  When you are lonely, read Psalm 23.  While I was looking for a scripture for my devotional today, I found the verse I needed, not only for this post, but also for me personally.  It wasn't on a chart, but right there in the verse.  Psalm 102 begins with this little introduction, "A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD."  That is where I am today.  I am afflicted.  I am overwhelmed.  And I am crying out to my Lord for help.

"1  <<A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD.>> Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee.
2  Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily."  (Psalm 102:1-2)

In reply to my cry, the Spirit led me to Romans 8.  "If God be for us, who can be against us?"

"31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."  (Romans 8:31-39)

13.  Tears Of Joy

Not all tears are sad tears, painful tears, or tears of loneliness.  Sometimes we shed tears of joy.  Here are four examples found in the Bible of people who wept with tears of joy.  Many times when I feel God's blessing on my life my cup overflows in joy and runs down my face in tears.

Jacob cheated his brother Esau out of his birthright and his blessing and had to go away in fear.  He traveled to his mother's family and when he met Rachel, he cried tears of joy.

"And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.  And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept."  (Genesis 29:10-11)

After serving Laban twenty years, Jacob went back home.  He was afraid of meeting Esau because of the way he cheated him and had to flee.  When Jacob and Esau met again they both wept.  It could have been that the tears of joy were shed because they were able to put the past behind them and live in peace.  Esau was able to forgive Jacob and that ended twenty years of emotional pain for them both.

"And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept."  (Genesis 33:4)

Joseph had eleven brothers, and out of envy, they sold him into slavery.  He endured many hardships in Egypt, but God was with him, and he was given a great position of authority.  After many years his brothers went to Egypt to buy food during the great famine.  Even through it all, Joseph wept tears of joy when he revealed himself to his brothers.

"13  And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.
14  And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.
15  Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him."  (Genesis 45:13-15)

The Israelites turned their backs on God and worshiped idols and God allowed them to be carried away to Babylon.  Cyrus, the king of Persia, allowed them to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple.  When the foundation of the temple was laid the people shouted aloud for joy and cried with a loud voice.  The tears could have been of remorse, but also tears of joy because the foundation of the temple was laid, and they were back in the holy city.

"11  And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
12  But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:
13  So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off."  (Ezra 3:11-13)

14.  Everlasting Tears

Today we see the saddest, most horrible, tears ever.  Those will be the eternal tears of those who don't trust in the Lord as their Savior.  The Bible gives us a little view of heaven and the everlasting joy some will have.  There is no sin in heaven and the only way we can go to heaven is to ask Jesus to forgive us of our sin.  He died on the cross to pay for our sin and when we put our trust in Him, He covers us with His righteousness and He has a place prepared for us in heaven.  Jesus is the only way to go to heaven.  All who don't believe in Jesus and put their trust in Him will be cast into hell for eternity, "There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth..."  Please ask Jesus to save you today, while you still can.  You could die tonight and wake up in hell to everlasting tears.  Don't wait until it is too late.

"23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out."  (Luke 13:23-28)

15.  God Shall Wipe Away All Our Tears

For our last devotional on "Tears" we are looking to the last Bible verse on tears.  "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."  (Revelations 21:4)  I often hear people say that there will be no tears in heaven.  But, this verse tells us that God will wipe away our tears.  How can we not weep when we stand before God in judgment and realize how we could have done more for Him?  We would not have the power to stop our tears if we saw friends and family that never trusted Jesus, lost throughout eternity.  I have thought about this many times.  I know that God will wipe away our tears, and I believe that He will wipe away our memories of pain and sorrow, "for the former things are passed away."  Many times we cry when we think of times and events in our lives that caused us sorrow.  We read in Hebrews 10:17, "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more."  If God can wipe away our sins and remember them no more, then He can surely wipe away our sorrows so that we remember them no more.

"1  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely."  (Revelation 21:1-6)
